Dr. Imen Bouhaouel holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Biological Engineering from Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech-University of Liège (Belgium) and the National Agronomic Institute of Tunisia (INAT). She also holds a Master's degree in Phytogenetic Resources and Biotechnologies, along with an Engineering degree in Plant Production Sciences, both from INAT.
From 2007 to 2009, she gained valuable research experience at the National Gene Bank of Tunisia. Her teaching career began in 2012. Currently, Dr. Bouhaouel serves as an Assistant Professor in Plant Ecophysiology at the Higher School of Agriculture of Mateur. In addition, she is an active member of the Genetics and Cereal Breeding Laboratory at INAT.
Passionate about plant-plant and plant-soil interactions as pathways to developing innovative ecological solutions, she has increasingly focused on biostimulants—eco-friendly fertiliser alternatives aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, in particular in cereal crops.
Dr. Bouhaouel is involved in many national and international research and development projects. Through her background, she is confident in her ability to contribute to the development of local agriculture, while actively engaging women—whether researchers, rural women, or others—who hold the potential to make a significant impact on the agricultural sector.
