Awla Development Framework, ADF

Awla Development Framework is a structure consisting of two core area, research governance & effectiveness and positive leadership & Impact. Supported by continuous mentoring, coaching and assessment.

Awla approach to development encompasses the knowledge, intellectual abilities, tools, and skills fellows need to support their research quality and impact, and showcase their intellect, capability and contribution in agriculture.

Leadership Development is based on positive psychology applications and tools to enhance the fellows following skills and capabilities:

Research & Development in the field of agriculture is a key component in the design and development of Awla fellowship.

Providing online R&D training solutions and webinars, to support fellows in their pursuit for research excellence, innovation and impact by providing them with cutting-edge research tools and best practices.

ADF, encompasses the knowledge, intellectual abilities, tools, and skills fellows need to support their research quality and impact, and showcase their intellect, capability and contribution in agriculture.

Awla Development Framework, ADF is supported by continuous, mentoring, coaching and assessment.

Journey Map

Awla is a ten months fellowship program designed to advance the research and leadership skills of Arab women researchers in agriculture to create a positive change.

Taking a holistic approach that factors in the various challenges and needs of Arab women researchers, Awla focuses on raising the levels of awareness and understanding of gender dynamics, positive leadership and diversity and inclusion.

Over the course of the fellowship's program, fellows will undertake structured and applied learning through interactive online and class- room training, coaching and mentoring, and continuous assessment.

On their development journey, fellows will be working on a variety of individual assignments, in addition to team-based capstone projects as the golden thread that connects and translates their learning and impact.

The modular nature of Awla, allows the fellows sufficient time to acquire and practice learning; experiment with tools, knowledge and exposure, to make progress in their own professional and project(s) advancement.

Capstone Projects

Pre-selection Work

As part of the fellows' selection process, candidates are requested to submit a concept note for an initial proposition, fortified with researched and evidenced rationale on any of the following topics:

  1. An applied research concept/idea in agriculture.
  2. Enhancing coordination among research & development organizations to utilize current resources in the agriculture field.
  3. Centralizing data and information on research projects, scientific findings and all related information to agriculture.

Team-based capstone projects will be guided by the fellows' mentors, Awla's Steering Committee and selected stakeholders nominated by the fellows. Fellows can choose from a variety of inter- disciplinary topics as well as agriculture specific, as long as their topic of choice has a convincing value proposition.

To encourage fellows to interact with their counterparts from different regions, and exchange ways of thinking and learning approaches, team-based capstone projects will be formed of fellows from different countries in their region.

At the end of the fellowship program, capstones projects will be presented and discussed with concerned stakeholders to seek funding.
