Dr. Ouertani is an Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Plant Molecular Physiology at the Center of Biotechnology of Borj Cedria (CBBC), Tunisia, since 2012.

Dr. Ouertani holds a Ph.D. in Functional Biosciences from the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Japan, and has a Master's degree and an Engineering degree from the National Agronomic Institute of Tunis, Tunisia. Most of her research has focused on plant molecular physiology, gene function, transcriptomics, genetic characterization, and genetics in Arabidopsis and cereals.

Her current research activities include investigation of biochemical, physiological, and molecular traits conferring abiotic stresses tolerance in cereals. Dr. Ouertani teaches molecular biology basic course and physiology of stress courses at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and the National Agronomic Institute of Tunis. She also supervises several master's degree students and has organized various international scientific meetings.

Dr. Ouertani is also a partner in several national and international projects and a principal investigator of the Joint Arab-US Early-Career Women Research Project co-financed by ICBA and CRDF Global.
